Very new to FSFS and X-Plane 11. Enjoying learning good flying habits in the Cessna 172. However I have ran into a very strange occurrence. I created and loaded a fairly simple flight plan from Wickenburg (AZ) Muni E25 to KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor total distance 106 nm. It saves and loads just fine in the cockpit GPS and in FSFS. Once enroute the instructor tell me flight time to the first waypoint of KARLO is 3552 miles and flight time of 76 hrs 49 minutes!!! In actuality the distance is only 24 nm!! Mr. Smith also indicates the bearing to KARLO is 015 degrees when GPS and maps indicate 026 degrees. So very strange Mr. Smith also calculates fuel use of 1378 gallons....wow!
I continued flying the plan by following the GPS and the instructor never acknowledged passing over KARLO or any other waypoints.
What could be the issue?
Thanks for any insight you may have.

Hi Dale:

Great to hear you are enjoying FSFlyingSchool - I am sure we can resolve this for you.

Please send the flight plan file itself to

support@FSFlyingSchool.com

so we can take a further look at it.

The waypoint coordinates in the plan, as shown after loading into FSFlyingSchool, are massively incorrect, so poor Mr Smith will not be able to make much sense of them.

We need firm technical data so can you confirm (or correct) the following please?

1. Flight flown in Cessna 172 supplied with X-Plane 11?

2. Please supply the name and model of the GPS installed in the plane you flew?

3. GPS in plane was used to create the flight plan?

Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing the file.

Jeff
Thanks for your prompt response.
I have just e-mailed the flight plan file as requested. I answered your questions the best I can in the e-mail.
(just don't know how to obtain make and model of the default GPS installed in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk 1000)

Squadron Leader has gone above and beyond in helping me resolve this issue.
Seems that the flight plan I created with "XPFlight Planner" added extra data after each line in the fms file that was causing the confusion in FSFlying School. Remove the extra characters, save the file, and I am "good to go".
Thank you so much!

Hi Dale:

Thanks for your enthusiasm!

To summarize the results for all readers...

The issue is that XP FlightPlanner appears to append reference data to end of several lines and that is causing the problem when FSFlyingSchool tries to read it.

If the extra data is simply removed it solves the problem.

I used Notepad to edit the file, make the corrections and save it in about 10 seconds.

You just need to get rid of any characters that come after the longitude like these…

1 E25 ADEP 2386.000000 33.970155 -112.795565 # 0 #
11 KARLO V105 4000.000000 34.291178 -112.497656 # 0.81 # [SID]
11 GINKE V105 4500.000000 33.879042 -112.242842 # 0.81 #
…etc…
1 KPHX ADES 1132.000000 33.433580 -112.011837 # 0 # Runway 08 ILS-cat-I 111.75 MHz

…so the edited version of the file looks like this… (nothing ever appears after the longitude)…

I
1100 version
CYCLE 1802
ADEP E25
ADES KPHX
NUMENR 8
1 E25 ADEP 2386.000000 33.970155 -112.795565
11 KARLO V105 4000.000000 34.291178 -112.497656
11 GINKE V105 4500.000000 33.879042 -112.242842
11 JONHH V105 5000.000000 33.804750 -112.197206
3 PXR R08-Y 5000.000000 33.433019 -111.970200
11 ETVIW R08-Z 5000.000000 33.440847 -112.259356
11 OJGIL DRCT 3500.000000 33.440906 -112.139744
1 KPHX ADES 1132.000000 33.433580 -112.011837

…and it loads just fine!

Thanks for your kind words - have a great weekend of flights!
