I am a registered owner of FS Approach version 1.4.1 and I see that version 1.6.0 is available, but I can't determine from the website how to download it properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tim:

No problem!

Here's the overall policy - with instructions...

Note that FSFS PRO, FSFS 2011 and FSFS 2010 are all different products - they are not upgraded from one to another for free.

Whenever we announce a new updated version of a product, if it is "free to registered owners of the same product"...

...just download the latest demo version of the same product and install in the same folder as your existing registered version.

This will mean that the newly installed product will use the registration data which was already in place in that folder.

Note that this can be done with FS Instant Approach, FSFlyingSchool PRO and FS Instant Help.

FS Instant Approach Demo
http://www.fsinventions.com/download/FS_Instant_Approach_Setup.exe

FSFS Pro Demo
http://www.fsflyingschool.com/download/FSFlyingSchool_Pro_Setup.exe

FS Instant Help Demo
http://www.fsinventions.com/download/FS_Instant_Help_Setup.exe

This cannot be done with FSFlyingSchool 2011 or FSFlyingSchool 2010 as they are different products and require a purchased upgrade to become FSFlyingSchool PRO.

If you own FSFlyingSchool 2011 or FSFlyingSchool 2010 and would like to try out the latest free version of the FSFlyingSchool PRO demo, you should download and install it in a new folder.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I have now downloaded the latest version, but was required to re-register.

The problem I have now is that when I try to switch back to FSX after "Connecting" using "Alt-Tab", I only get a black screen. I can see my cursor, but nothing else. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Tim

Hi Tim:

If you are not already so configured, I'd like to ask what result you get if FSX is running in a window. You can toggle this in FSX by pressing ALT ENTER which will change back and forth between full screen and 'windowed' in FSX when you are sitting in a plane.

FSFS runs fine with FSX in either full screen or windowed mode - I am just trying to get more test data for this case.

Also - do you have a multiple screen set up or is there anything else that is unusual about your system?

Finally - keep in mind that when you return to FSX it may be paused - press P to resume the program ('un-pause'). This is controlled with an option in FSX called "Pause on task switch".

Thank you again, Squadron Leader.

I have been away, but just tried your suggestion. It doesn't seem to consistently load the approach I have selected. I seemed to have some luck when I clicked on "Generate Runway Data for FX" under the Settings tab. The scenery takes a long time to load however and after a few attempts to re-engage FSX (Alt-Tab), it starts, but not everytime.

Do you have other suggestions. Thanks.

Tim

Hi Tim:

Some points...

1. You only need to generate the runway data if you have added scenery. And you need to do it again when you... add more scenery.

2. The time taken to load scenery is an inherent part of FSX. If you wish to avoid this, you can simply fly all approaches in the same place.

3. "...but not every time..." What happens when it does not "start"?

Thanks for the suggestions.

When it doesn't load, I just get a blank (black) screen.

Hi again!

So - you are running FSX in a Window now as I understand you.

You could also try clicking on FSX at the bottom of the screen on the Windows taskbar.

If that does not wake up FSX you could try pressing ALT SPACE to get its attention and then selecting Maximize from its menu.

Hi to all:

Please note that the upgrades to FS Instant Approach do not change the way it fundamentally interacts with FSX. If an earlier version worked without issue - later versions will work the same way.
