I am wondering if there are any plans to allow for user modification of the key commands that FS Flying School uses.  The reason is I fly with an ACP Compact to control radios, autopilot commands, lights, etc and this unit is programmed with an EPROM with fixed key assignments that cannot be changed.  I can provide a list of ACP's key assignments if that will help at all.

Regards,

Zane

Zane:

We plan to make the key combinations programmable by the user in a later release, but at present they are fixed...

Just trying to help - have you already tried our 'alternate' keystrokes (see list)?

Finally - yes - we'd like the information on the ACP compact if you have it handy!

                         Default            Alternate
Advance Flight Mode:   [Ctrl-Shift-Z]     [Ctrl-Shift-1]
Back Up Flight Mode:   [Ctrl-Shift-X]     [Ctrl-Shift-2]
Display Data:          [Ctrl-Shift-D]     [Ctrl-Shift-3]
Circuits Start / Stop: [Ctrl-Shift-Space] [Ctrl-Shift-4]
Airmanship Test:       [Ctrl-Shift-C]     [Ctrl-Shift-5]

Here is a graphic shot of what the unit looks like and an excel spreadsheet that documents each knob entry.  Aerosoft has told me that the subcontractor that makes this unit is looking into mods for it to work correctly in FSX.  At present these key combinations work for FS2002 and FS2004.  You can also use the unit in what is called a default setting which sends all standard MSFS key commands so for instance altimeter barometer knob just sends a "B" either direction and the gear lever sends the "G" when toggled.

Hope this is helpful.

Zane

Zane:

Thanks for the info!

If I follow this, there should be no problem, because the only FSFS keys which match the ACP unit are Ctl-Shift-3 and Ctl-Shift-5 and these are themselves the alternates for Ctl-Shift-D and Ctl-Shift-C, so you can just use the FSFS defaults to talk to FSFS, without triggering an action from anything else.
                        Default            Alternate
Display Data:          [Ctrl-Shift-D]     [Ctrl-Shift-3]
Airmanship Test:       [Ctrl-Shift-C]     [Ctrl-Shift-5]

Of course - the problem is that when you adjust your HDG to the left with the ACP unit, you'll see FSFS "display data" - but this is hardly a serious disruption.

Not so good is that when you adjust your barometer to the left with the ACP unit, FSFS will want to give you an "airmanship test", but hey - maybe that could be useful anyway? I know I could use one...

I guess I'm just saying that, by luck, the key mappings are not a huge problem - not perfect, but (I hope for yourself) only a minor issue.

As I said - we do plan in a future version to allow the user to change these - it's on our list.

Yes, those are the two conflicts.  When I first posted I wasn't sure how many conflicts there might but, just that I was finding that the knobs that I use frequently on the ACP weren't working properly and I was triggering functions in the Flying School.  I look forward to being able to remove those two assignments in Flying School.

Zane
