After setting up straight in approach to YBCG in flight planning, saved scenario will not load aircraft into position when save approach file selected and ctrl shift P does not position aircraft.
Scenarios are saved into scenarios folder OK
Opening instant approach causes X plane to re open when it is launched.

Hi Chocolates:

>> After setting up straight in approach to YBCG in flight planning, saved scenario will not load aircraft into position when save approach file selected and ctrl shift P does not position aircraft.
Scenarios are saved into scenarios folder OK

Some folks have noticed that the keystrokes to load the most recently saved approach file will not function unless they first open the PositionAircraft plugin from the Plugins menu in XP when they are in a plane. Once it is opened the keystrokes then work, or the pilot can simply choose "Quick Load" and then "Position" from the PositionAircraft program itself which is there on the screen.

Can you try that and let me know how you get on?

>> Opening instant approach causes X plane to re open when it is launched.

This is very puzzling as it has never been reported before. Are you saying that when you launch the FS Instant Approach application it causes X-Plane to terminate and then to launch itself again?

Opening the plugin before trying to launch instant approach does not make any difference. After starting x plane 12 and positioning on the rwy in the air I use win+D to go to the deskop to start instant approach. When I open instant approach the x plane window re opens simultaneously with instant approach window now showing. After connecting and loading a scenario none of the position plug in commands or key strokes cause the aircraft to re position.
I also have instant approac for MSFS which works ok.

Hi:

>> After connecting and loading a scenario none of the position plug in commands or key strokes cause the aircraft to re position.

After launching FS Instant Approach and pressing connect in FS Instant Approach the key action is that the "Save Approach File" button must be pressed to create the file that PositionAircraft is going to read.

Unless this is done nothing will happen.

The procedure is...
- Launch X-Plane.
- Create or select a flight in X-Plane.
- Get that plane ready to fly, either in mid-air or on the ground. Get yourself at the controls of the plane with the engines running - ready to fly. Leave X-Plane running.
- Open the Positionaircraft plugin in X-Plane.
- Return to Windows Desktop (using Alt TAB or whichever method you prefer) and launch the FS Instant Approach 2023 program.
- To set up an instant approach, click the [Flight Plan] button, enter your airport, click the [Approach Airport] button, chose your runway etc and then click the [Save Approach File] button to create the approach file.
- Return to X-Plane (using Alt TAB or whichever method you prefer).
- Press Ctrl Shift C to view the 'Position Aircraft' Control Panel within X-Plane.
- Press Ctrl Shift Q to quick load the approach file you created into the Position Aircraft plugin.
- Press Ctrl Shift P to position the aircraft ready to fly the approach you just created with FS Instant Approach.

Thanks, but still not working despite the Save Approach button showing approach saved. None of the Ctrl Shift keys work and can't get anything from the Plugin menu. Aircraft stays put but control column shows slight movement only.

The save approach file does not load any data into the Position Aircraft plug in control panel.

I Have finally been able to get the approach selected to load using the following procedure:-

FS Instant approach 2023 for X plane 12

Open X plane and start new or saved flight
Use Win D to go to desktop and start Instant Approach
Connect Instant Approach to X plane
Go to Settings
Generate Rwy data into x plane folder
(Not sure if this needs to be done each time)
Go to Flight Plan
Create an approach or load a saved approach
Select Save Approach File for ????
Approach file saved message appears
Minimise Instant Approach
From X plane menu open
Plugins > Position Aircraft
Control Panel
Get Data > Quick Load> Position
This is the only way I can gat an approach to load.
Hope this helps

Hi Chocolates:

Great to hear that you have it all working and thanks for letting us know what procedure you are using - this all helps.

You should only need to generate runway data if you get a message saying that it is missing, or if you update your X-Plane runway data, in which case you should run it again.

Once the PositionAircraft control panel is open in X-Plane, most folks are able to use

Ctrl Shift Q - to load the last saved "approach file"

Ctrl Shift P - to position the aircraft at the loaded position

So... once the first approach has been done, the pilot can simply change the values at will in the FS Instant Approach program, and press "Save approach file" and then return to XP and press
Ctrl Shift Q Ctrl Shift P
and will be positioned for the next approach.

Thanks again for your report - and have a great week of flights!
