Does FSFlyingSchool say it's monitoring FSX? This is at the bottom of the FSFlyingSchool window.
Also it's ctrl-shift-z to change the flight mode.

| Hi - I'll start from the basics - the most common reason by far for this problem is the FSFS application (program) has been launched before the pilot has 'entered the cockpit'. If this is the case, the keys may not work correctly. It is essential that FSX is launched first - then the pilot gets into the aircraft (either on the ground or in the air) and only then, last of all, is the FSFS application (program) launched. At that point, options in FSFS can be set and then 'connect' is pressed in FSFS. If you have not already done so, can you try this out and let me know how you get on?
