I launched FSX as you requested, but no difference.  It still won't connect.  I don't have a clue insofar as security issues are concerned.  What next?  Thanks  Ken

Firstly - we are not asking you to turn off your virus protection software...

Question - is your PC running virus protection software?

In very rare cases, this can somtimes place a wall of sorts between FSFS and FSUIPC/FSX.

Do not turn it off - we have to proceed carefully here - we just want to know what you are running. Please let us know the name and version of the software (we imagine that like most folks you are probably running something).

I am running a protection program offered by my Internet provider.  My provider is Shaw and the program offered is Shaw Secure.  It offers virus protection, firewall, etc. etc.  As far as I could tell, all the programs were being allowed.  Could this FSUIPC not being able to connect to the flying school have anything to do with Microsoft Windows Vista Security?  I went through some of their Q/A but I really didn't understand much of it.  I appreciate your help and am most anxious to use your product.  Thanks    Ken

Ken:

Yes it could be related to the issue - this is most puzzling as most folks, with Win 7 or Vista or XP have no problems - they install and it just works.

It is most regretable that you are having all this trouble, but we are determined that we will get you up and flying with us!

You could take a look at the security - you would want to be on the lookout for anything that was a non-standard setting, that is, offered stronger security settings than normal. I say this because the typical PC does not have this issue and so I can only imagine it is being caused by settings that are more strict than usual.

Please let us know how you get on.

I appreciate you working with me.  I was at a computer strore this morning and they advised me to uninstall my internet provider's protection as it causes all sorts of problems with blocking, etc.  I did this and installed a virus program they recommended called AVAST.  I'm still having the same problem.  I went into windows firewall and turned it off but nothing changed.  I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and a bit frustrated.  I received an announcement for a special this weekend to upgrade to FSflying school 2010 along with the Cessna 172.  I would really like to do this but feel reluctant because I haven't been able to try out the 2009 version yet.  I really don't know where to go from here.  Thanks.

Don't worry about the offer this weekend - if we can get you up and running with us we'll work something satisfactory out.

I need to chat more with some techies about this situation (with FSFS and FSUIPC and FSX) and will see if that can shake loose any leads or (heaven forbid) find something I have missed!

Please give me a day or 2 and I will be back with you.

Again - rest assured that this is really very uncommon - there are thousands of installations all over the world that worked right outta-the-box. We'll get there...

Can you summarize the following for me (apologies if you already have):

FSX version

FSUIPC version

FSFS version

Windows version

Ken:

Please email me the files

FSUIPC4.log

and

FSUIPC4 Install.log

from your FSX modules folder - which is usually something like:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules
