Hi John:

[JohnLD] >> However, I ran version 4.6.9.9 (latest version)

The Dowson download site

http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

has version 4.8.4.0 of of MakeRunways as of March 30 2018.

Can I ask if, basically, everything is working on this PC now - or is there still a problem?

Hi John,

I was facing the same error. After having downloaded the latest version of MakeRwys.exe (v4.8.4.0 despite that the site of Peter Dowson shows v4.8.2.0) and re-generated the runway data for P3D, it works now as expected.
Many thanks for your help!

Hi Christian:

This is very useful. Can you tell me -

- Into which folder did you put the MakeRunways program this time?

- Did you generate the data using FSFlyingSchool (which itself calls on MakeRunways) or did you run MakeRunways by itself by launching it directly?

- Do you have any other 3rd party software installed which manages this data?

- Do you have add-on runways?

- Which version of FSFlyingSchool are you using?

- Which version of P3D are you using?

Thanks.

- Jeff

Hi Jeff,

sorry for the late reply - only just seen your response.

Yes, still having the exact same problem. I also downloaded MakeRunways 4.8.4 and ran in the P3D directory which ran without any issues. FSFlyingSchool stilll crashes with the same error whenever I try to Connect with an 'On Approach' starting situation.

Cheers,

John

Hi John:

Thanks for the detailed answers - this is of great help.

To anyone experiencing this issue...

We need to start from a fixed known point and move on from there.

As you will know a small number of pilots have reported this on this forum and this situation is puzzling because, as we can imagine, we sell a good number of copies of FSFlyingSchool PRO 2018 for P3Dv4 and almost nobody is experiencing this issue - except those folks who have experienced it and reported it here of course.

So... it is clearly not a widespread, general issue.

The problem is with the generated runway data (and the operation of generating it) of course so I want to start with standard FSFlyingSchool runway data for P3D and move on from there to get add-on scenery included - at which point the case is solved.

FSFlyingSchool PRO 2018 for P3Dv4 ships with a file called P3D.RWY which contains runway data. It is not your data of course - we will come to that later once we get this working.

Please do this...

First please quit all programs - then...

please look in the folder where the Prepar3Dv4 application was installed on your PC to see if there are any large files (over 1MB) with a date since you installed FSFlyingSchool.

If there are please let me know their names.

In addition please copy the file P3D.RWY from the FSFlyingSchool folder and put it into the folder where the Prepar3Dv4 application was installed on your PC.

Finally, get into a plane in P3Dv4 and then launch FSFlyingSchool and "connect" and let me know what results you get:

1) When just flying a short flight (5 minutes) which lands at an airport

2) When using the 'On Approach' feature to practice a landing at a specific runway

Please let me know how you get on!

Hi Christian:

This is very useful. Can you tell me -

- Into which folder did you put the MakeRunways program this time? >>> In the FSFlyingSchool root folder (=same where FSFlyingSchool.exe is located)

- Did you generate the data using FSFlyingSchool (which itself calls on MakeRunways) or did you run MakeRunways by itself by launching it directly? >>> By pressing the button in FSFlyingSchool

- Do you have any other 3rd party software installed which manages this data? >>> No

- Do you have add-on runways? >>> No, but I have installed the scenery Switzerland Professional X

- Which version of FSFlyingSchool are you using? >>> FSFlyingSchool Pro 2018 (December 21 2017) v7.0.0

- Which version of P3D are you using? >>> Prepar3D v4 Professional v4.2.21.24048

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

please look in the folder where the Prepar3Dv4 application was installed on your PC to see if there are any large files (over 1MB) with a date since you installed FSFlyingSchool.

If there are please let me know their names.

Files > 1MB (except for dlls) created after FSFS installed:
FSFS2011.TXT 5,556 KB
runways.csv 2,510 KB
FstarRC.rws 2,130 KB
t5.csv 15,078 KB
t5.bin 10,033 KB
runways.xml 53,409 KB
r5.csv 4,617 KB
r5.bin 4,046 KB
r4.csv 4,502 KB
g5.csv 3,522 KB
Runways.txt 138,034 KB
f5.csv 1,236 KB

In addition please copy the file P3D.RWY from the FSFlyingSchool folder and put it into the folder where the Prepar3Dv4 application was installed on your PC.

P3D.RWY was already in P3D app folder, with same date and size as one in FSFS directory. I tried with this file removed and with the one from the FSFlyingSchool folder copied back in and get the same errorwhen using the 'On Approach' feature.

I am going to try a few things over the next few days and will report back.

Cheers,

John

Hi Jeff,

the 'On Approach' feature is now working for me!

I copied the latest version of MakeRunways to the FSFS directory and re-generated the runway data through FSFS and it now appears to be working.

I've also had a few problems where it was initially positioning the aircraft ok according to the selected 'On Approach' airport, but would then re-position to an approach in a flight plan. This happened several times, even after clearing the flight plan (in both P3D and FSFS) and unchecking 'Auto Read P3D Flight Plan'. Restarting everything seems to have cleared this.

Thanks for your support. Regards,

John
