Hi,

I too have exactly the same problem. It crashes every time i try to load a flight plan. No warnings, no errors.

FSFlyingSchool 2018 v6.4.0
Running X-Plane 11 on Win 10 64bit (system language German)

I tried this simple flight plan generated with simbrief.com, exported to an XPlane 11 formated fms file.

EDNY to EDDM

I
1100 Version
CYCLE 1811
ADEP EDNY
ADES EDDM
NUMENR 5
1 EDNY ADEP 1368.000000 47.671317 9.511486
3 KPT DRCT 3000.000000 47.745775 10.349833
11 ATMAX Y110 3000.000000 47.929603 10.749956
11 MERSI Y100 3000.000000 47.982208 11.042586
1 EDDM ADES 4000.000000 48.353783 11.786086

My 2 cents as a sw dev:
Could it be a parsing bug on systems where the default system lang isn't english?

Btw, bought the full package yesterday. Yay

Need some help. Thanks!

Hi gosling61161:

Glad to help - thanks for the data.

>> Could it be a parsing bug on systems where the default system lang isn't english?

Yes indeed it could but the data suggests that there is almost certainly something else involved. FSFlyingSchool is in use on 1000s of PCs all over the world - a great number of users are, as we might expect, using other languages/character sets/perferences/etc - yet we have almost no reports of this problem.

As a next step - please create and save a plan with a GPS included with X-Plane and try loading that and let me know what occurs.

Hi Jeff,

I tried these two flight plans saved directly in XPlane:

LSZHLSZR.fms
I
1100 Version
CYCLE 1812
ADEP LSZH
DEPRWY RW34
SID ZUE1G
ADES LSZR

NUMENR 2
1 LSZH ADEP 0.000000 47.458057 8.548056
1 LSZR ADES 0.000000 47.485001 9.561944

LSZREDNY.fms
I
1100 Version
CYCLE 1812
ADEP LSZR
ADES EDNY
NUMENR 2
1 LSZR ADEP 1306.000000 47.485001 9.561944
1 EDNY ADES 1367.000000 47.671318 9.511486

Same result. It look like it's loading for a second and then just crashes silently.

>> FSFlyingSchool is in use on 1000s of PCs all over the world - a great number of users are, as we might expect, using other languages/character sets/perferences/etc - yet we have almost no reports of this problem.

First of all, congrats for the number of users

Second, it might be rare, but there's 3 ppl here, and there's this other post there Navigator pack not working which is basically the same problem.

So I would say it's a thing lets call it a bug

PS: Let me know if you need more information from my system or install. I'd be happy to help.

Best Alex

Hi Alex:

Please send me those 2 files so I can look at them here.

Yes any software can certainly contain bugs and moreover, as we can imagine, issues can be caused by specific, rare configurations of PCs, or unusual data on the PC which the software needs and these things can lead to problems without anything at all being wrong with the software.

One of the users who reported this problem here solved it by "...reinstalling the software...".

I'd like to work from the files rather than copy the data in your message so please send them when you have a moment to:

I sent the files to your email.

I don't understand what you mean by rare configuration or unusual data

I'd say my PC config is pretty standard and my data are very normal

I have
- Win 10 64bit, with most recent 1809 update
- XPlane 11 installed via Steam
- and Data look correct too, as far as I can tell

I already reinstalled it multiple times, using different paths, for install and flight plan storing.
(also tried very basic paths like C:\FSFS for install and C:\flight_plans for fms files)

No luck...

Hi:

>> I don't understand what you mean by rare configuration or unusual data

This may or may not be the case on your PC - this is what we need to find out.

What I mean is that if the user's PC or data is sufficiently unusual the software may not function.

For example this could be:

- Damaged X-Plane installation (files missing or moved, configuration damage, etc)
- 3rd party products incompatible with our product
- Damaged Windows installation (files missing or moved, registry damage, etc)
- Non standard options chosen in Windows or X-Plane
- Bad data in X-Plane folders (3rd party airports have sometimes contained impossible data)
- Etc

Such things can cause the software to stop functioning.

Thanks for sending the files!

Ok cool, let's get to the bottom of this issue.
I want to use my FSFS nav pack asap

Is there some sort of log we can look at?
Can't find anything in the install folder.

Is there some redistributable this software depends on?
Like MV C++ or .Net and if so, which version should i look for?

As a software developer myself I know this kind of kernelbase errors often occur when for some reason the wrong framework dlls are loaded or such.

Hi Alex:

Progress!

The files load fine here so that's more data with which the case can be solved.

We know that FSFlyingSchool can load the files - but this is not happening on your PC.

>> Is there some sort of log we can look at?

No.

>> Is there some redistributable this software depends on? Like MV C++ or .Net and if so, which version should i look for?

No.

>> I'd say my PC config is pretty standard and my data are very normal

Is there anything about the configuration of your PC which you can think of that is not commonplace for a PC?

Do you develop software on the PC?

Nothing comes to mind except the non english system language.

What kinda configuration could influence the execution of the program?
That's why I was asking about frameworks to narrow it down.

>> Do you develop software on the PC?

No, not on this machine. Only dev tool I've installed here is VS Code, which I need mostly for XPlane (e.g. to edit scenery_packs.ini and alike).

Maybe I should install Visual Studio and try to 'catch' the crash when it happens and see if I can gather more information?

Hi Alex:

>> What kinda configuration could influence the execution of the program?

I don't know anything specific to this case, but as there are an almost infinite number of ways a PC can be configured I always need to ask in case the user remembers something that is obviously unusual as this can save a lot of time.

>> Maybe I should install Visual Studio and try to 'catch' the crash when it happens and see if I can gather more information?

Thanks but I'd rather you did not install or change anything at all so that we can be sure to solve this issue as it stands.

I am going to create a new FSFlyingSchool EXE which will give us more information - which I would like you to download and run if that is OK with you?
