Hi everybody,
since a few days I fly with FSFS (FSX).
I'm not an experienced pilot. Can anybody explain what I have to do to reach more points?

I have created a fligh plan in FSX. VFR flightlevel 25, Cessna 172, lower airways, EDVE to EDVP, without any nodes (VOR, NDB,...).

For now I don't want to taxi so i choosed to take the active runway. I start with flaps on 10°. FSFS is telling me flaps during taxi blabla...you are taxing too fast. CTRL-Shift 1 doesn't work

Furthermore I can't get glideslope information for the approach. I wanted to land at runway 25 so I turned the OBS button (nav1) to 250 degrees. CTRL-Shift D (checking runway heading) doesn't work. ILS & autopilot are turned off.

The approach is more or less successful (sinking with 500 ft/min touchdown with 100 ft/min) but I'd like to learn how to use the navigation devices correctly.

Maybe somebody can help to "fill" the room for improvement

Aircraft: Cessna ID: N52KA Airline: Flight:
Flight plan: EDVE TO EDVP NAV1: WRB
Failure(s): None at landing
Failure Event(s) (Zulu Time): None

Landing Score:53,29

Landing was successful in the following areas:
* Gentle touchdown.
* Good landing speed - not too fast.
* Wings were level.
* Good pitch control after touchdown.
* Good pitch at landing.
* With flaps - good job.
* Heading aligned with runway.
* Throttle(s) idle.
* Good controlled final descent to touchdown.
* Good steering after landing.

Landing included the following problems:
* No glideslope information was available on visual approach.
* No runway alignment information was available on visual approach.
* No glideslope - could not compare flare to glideslope.
Definite room for improvement...

Hi everybody,
since a few days I fly with FSFS (FSX).
I'm not an experienced pilot. Can anybody explain what I have to do to reach more points?

A user-to-user anwser:

Hi there Joka, and welcome to the world of FsFlyingSchool. You have reached the best addon for FS9 and FSX out there, or at least that is what I think, me being just a user of the program, and as you see, a great fan.

I have created a fligh plan in FSX. VFR flightlevel 25, Cessna 172, lower airways, EDVE to EDVP, without any nodes (VOR, NDB,...).

FSFS does not care if you file flightplans in FS. But you need to save a flightplan (runway A to B, or runway A to A) that you can use in FSFS. When you are on a runway (you said you didn´t want to taxi, so you start on runway) and are ready to fly, you start FSFS and load a flightplan in here.

For now I don't want to taxi so i choosed to take the active runway. I start with flaps on 10°. FSFS is telling me flaps during taxi blabla...you are taxing too fast. CTRL-Shift 1 doesn't work

It is important that you don´t start FSFS until you are ready on the ground in FS (Flight Simulator) The problem with ctrl-shift-1 (or 2 or 3 or 4 or space) could very be caused by starting - and often connecting FSFS before FS is ready.
Retract flaps when taxiing, and if your plane allows take with flaps on, then lower flaps when you are ready to take off.

Furthermore I can't get glideslope information for the approach. I wanted to land at runway 25 so I turned the OBS button (nav1) to 250 degrees. CTRL-Shift D (checking runway heading) doesn't work. ILS & autopilot are turned off.

When you load a flightplan i FSFlyingSchool there are to possibilities. Either you have a runway with ILS landingsystem, in which case you must optain the ILS frequency and runway heading (Use MAP in FS and hoover the mouse over the runway in question)

OR you have a NON-ILS runway, i which case you have to make a non-ils file for the runway. This is explained in the manual, (that you should read anyway - it´s quite helpful)

All this might seem a trifle difficult but I assure you, it is not! Once you have done it twice, it´s easy as pie!

The approach is more or less successful (sinking with 500 ft/min touchdown with 100 ft/min) but I'd like to learn how to use the navigation devices correctly.

In FS there are tutorials explaning, and showing, and having you flying, all kinds of aspects of flying, including landings and ILS system. I suggest you go there and take the lessons. It´s NOT the missions, (FSX) but the learning center.

Maybe somebody can help to "fill" the room for improvement

But get used to one thing. You will nearly always get a "room for improvement" It´s is just FSFS´s way of saying that practise makes perfect, and lots of practise makes very perfect.

I hope any of this is useful. Just keep at it, and you will have a tool that will better you as a pilot, all the time

Hey there,
thank you very much
When I start FSFS AFTER starting the flight, the FSFS shortcuts work! But FSFS still cries for the glideslope

* No glideslope information was available on visual approach.
* No runway alignment information was available on visual approach.
* No glideslope - could not compare flare to glideslope.

Ok thats what I did,

- Turn OBS to 080 degrees (thats the correct runway heading)
- Switch NAV1 to 108.500MHz
- Switch from GPS to NAV1
- Activate Button NAV1 at the top of the communication panel

I can hear the Signal (i think the morse of the nav1 device) hm not sure but middlemarker and outermarker lights maybe work to.
But it still says no glideslope signal.

Tonight I'll try an IFR flight. 737-800 with flightplan from www.tuifly-virtual.com (Inofficial online appearance of a german airline with real flightplans...)

Could you state what airport and runway you were landing in? and what plane you flew in?

did you activate the NAV1 - swap nav1 dials after setting the frequency? The ILS signal does not reach you, that I can see by the FSFS sentence "No glideslope information was available on visual approach." Visual approach means no ILS signal.

Also...are you using the demo version or the full blown version?

If you are using the demo, there's a certain area to try it in.

It was EDVE (Braunschweig) RWY 08. May this was my mistake. As far as I see now just RWY 26 has an ILS glidepath Can you affirm this?
I swaped Nav1 after setting the frequency of the ILS.

I've attached the flightplan.

Yes I can. Only rwy 26 has ILS, ILS freq. 108.5 as you wrote, but heading is 264. Important that you get this right.
I swaped Nav1 after setting the frequency of the ILS.

I´m a little concerned about this, because from your transcript you do NOT have an ILS signal, and you say you swapped from GPS to NAV1. But what you need to do is, when changing ILS freq is this:

Then you should have an ILS landing available. Try it out, and tell me if it worked. If not we will keep on looking. Don´t worry we will get ou down safe, with ILS and all, in no time.

I've attached the flightplan.

It's the full version

If it was the demo, he would be disconnected when outside the demoarea, which does not include Germany.

Please write back either way. It´s always nice to know when people get things to work also...
